Go Seafood with No Signboard!

Your Singapore experience won’t be complete without tasting Chili crab, and cereal prawn and I know the best place where you can enjoy these dishes. Just along Raffles Avenue lies a seafood restaurant called No Signboard Seafood Restaurant. Fronting Marina Bay Sands, diners get to enjoy the view of Central Business District skyline, and the famous Merlion.

The restaurant started out as a stall at the Matter Road Hawker Centre in the late 70’s. Madam Ong Kim Hoi, and her husband sold White Pepper Crab based on Madam Choo's own recipe. As money was tight, they could not afford any signboards for their stall. Soon, their regular customers started recommending friends and could only refer to the stall as the one with no signboard.  (Now you know why they have that name).

The restaurant opens at 12nn.  We waited for approximately 20mins since we arrived earlier, but the staffs were kind enough to let us in as soon as they finished their pre-opening preparations.

Peanuts were served as appetizers while waiting for our dish

After a few minutes, our first order was served. This dish was perfectly cooked, a broth style dish topped with Chinese condiments that let the Spinach enhance its flavors.  This dish goes well with the Chili Crab.

Spinach with clear broth SGD 12.00

One of No Signboard’s best sellers is the Chili Crab. This dish features fresh Sri Lankan crabs cooked in chili sauce with various spices and prawn paste, giving this dish a saucy and flavorful dish. You’ll surely lick your fingers once you eat this dish. For those who are not used to eating spicy food, White Pepper Crab, the house specialty, is recommended. Fresh Sri Lankan crabs cooked with spring onions, garlic and white pepper for a peppery and juicy dish.

 Chili Crab SGD 54.00

Another signature dish is their Crispy Cereal Prawn, where the prawns are deep-fried coated in crispy cereal. The cereal complements the sweet prawn meat. Yum! I’ll bet you’ll never stop eating the cereal! You can also choose this dish done with crayfish instead of prawns.

A small order cost SGD30.00 that has approximately 10pcs of prawns good for 3-4persons

To compensate the chili and fishy taste of our meal, we ordered Honey Sauce Pork Ribs. This dish is similar to our usual pork spareribs, the only difference is this is glazed with sweet honey sauce.

Honey Sauce Pork Ribs SGD 15.00

You might want to try out other dishes that their Chef recommends. Double Boiled Lobster, Garlic Steamed Bamboo Clam, and the Hokkien Style Steam Fish.

We asked for our bill to round off our seafood adventure and a whopping SGD143.00 for our bill . That’s not all, we were charged for the peanuts and towelets. So make sure to bring those towelets with you since you paid for it. But overall, we had a wonderful dining experience in this restaurant. Make sure to give this place a visit when you’re in Singapore. A great meal definitely comes with a great price!
