Watami - Japanese Casual Restaurant

It's always a struggle to find a restaurant while shopping during the mid-day in Causeway Bay. Watami is a Japanese restaurant located at 3/F Hang Lung Centre Causeway Bay, Hong Kong that serves good food that is reasonably priced, I happen to run into this restaurant during a recent trip to Hong Kong last week.

The restaurant has a sophisticated and relaxing yet homey interior which gives its customers a comforting dining experience.

It was past 1pm when we arrived at the restaurant. To my surprise the place was still packed. It wasn’t long till we’re seated. Lunch menu was provided during this time. Their menu has colorful photos, which is very helpful for tourist (like me).

All of us ordered rice toppings since we need to replenish our energy since we planned to walk the whole day. Our meal came with soup and salad, both were good appetizers to start our meal.
Mami Hot udon

The soup tasted like miso soup but they enhanced it by placing noodles in it.

 Salad

The dressing of the salad was very tasty and compliments the corn included in the dish.

BBQ Beef Rice in stone pot HKD 49

Pork Rice with Egg Yolk in stone pot HKD 48

Similar to Korean’s Bibimbap, this dish is topped with beef, vegetables, raw egg and chili served in a very hot stone bowl enough to cook the raw egg against the sides of the bowl. Pork Rice with Egg Yolk in stone pot on the other hand is the non-spicy version. I liked this better since I was able to enjoy the flavor of this dish.

Beef with Spring Egg in Tokyo Style HKD 56

Last but not the least Beef with Spring Egg in Tokyo Style or simply (Gyudon). Rice topped with beef, raw egg yolk and onion simmered in a mildly sweet sauce flavored with dashi, soy sauce and mirin. Watami’s Gyudon tastes a bit salty unlike most Gyudon we have here in the Philippines that gave a sweet after taste.

Our bill cost roughly around HKD 170 or Php 1,020.  Not bad for a restaurant that serves quality dishes with excellent service. This restaurant is definitely worth a try.
