Face off: Chicken Charlie vs BonChon

VS
With the Korean invasion in our country, we tend to accept their sense of fashion, music and mostly specially their food. There are several restaurants that offer authentic Korean dishes in the metro but when it comes to Korean fried Chicken, only 2 names will appear - Chicken Charlie and BonChon.

Since Filipinos love fried chicken, they did not have a hard time penetrating the market.  Before you know it, people started to crave and rave on their fried chicken and because both of them offer the same type of food. People say that Chicken Charlie is the BonChon of the North and vice versa.

Both of them claim that they serve fresh, delicious and crunchy fried chicken, but only one will prevail. Since I've already tasted and made a review about Chicken Charlie, I immediately went to the newly opened Bonchon Branch in Greenhills so i can also blog about it.

I ordered soy garlic chicken since I’m not a fan of spicy food. Food was served a few minutes after order was placed. This is a good thing especially when your starving since service in this restaurant is fast.

Bonchon has crunchy chicken, however, it failed on the taste. You can only taste the soy garlic flavor on the chicken skin but the meat is very dry and tasteless . It’s worse than eating white meat! In order to enjoy their chicken, you have to make sure that you have chicken skin in every bite. I was not satisfied with the result so I bought some for take-out so i could further compare Chicken Charlie and BonChon Chicken.

I also bought Chicken Charlie to compare it side by side.

After 2hrs,  Bonchon Chicken is already soggy while with Chicken Charlie, skin is still crunchy even if the chicken is already cold. You can see the difference on the picture below.

Of course, you will not enjoy eating your fried chicken when it’s cold so I reheated both chickens. The result? With Bochon Chicken, the skin became a bit crunchy but the meat still dry and tasteless. For Chicken Charlie, skin is still crunchy and the tastes the same! Well, I guess based on the results, you already know where my vote goes. Chicken Charlie for the win!

I must agree that Bonchon has already built their name and they already have several branches here in the metro but we do not eat just to fill our tummies we also eat to satisfy our cravings and enjoy our food. When it comes to food quality and a satisfying meal, Chicken Charlie surely knows how to handle that.
